What an insane time of year this is here in the Land of Abundance—shopping malls stuffed with exhausted and irritable people laden down with gifts they can’t possibly afford for people who don’t want or need them and are already “getting” too much. Oh, if only we could channel those funds to a better source. Of course the entire U.S. economy might collapse if we do away with Christmas…
Kendall and I saw the play “Caroline, or Change” last night which I thought was extraordinary. I love a musical where the main character isn’t begging us to like her. Tonya Pinkins’ pitch-perfect performance was devoid of schmaltz. And Leah performed in her “Broadway Bound” revue at YADA which was just great! Her main solo was in “Good Morning Baltimore” from “Hairspray” and she also played Glinda in a scene from “Wicked.” Those kids are so talented, I can’t believe they learned all those songs in just a few days.
