Does having a blog mean you have no life? I hope not, because I’m trying really hard to have one! And there are some amazing blogs out there even though I’d never read one until a few days ago. It’s fun to look at the ones that pop up on random lists and get a feel for what people are thinking about out there. Sometimes I find the extremely banal ones the most fascinating to read even though I wouldn’t necessarily want to sit next to those people at a party. I accidentally came upon a great blog written by Wil Wheaton (from “Stand By Me” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation”). What a great writer he is—who knew? And I’m not even a Trekkie! My sister is addicted to several blogs written by people she’s never met. Then she starts perusing the blogs that these strangers recommend and gets addicted to those! It’s a wonder she has time to brush her teeth. And my nephew Spencer has the coolest blog ever written by a nine year old! His band “The Blisters” is featured in this week’s Spin magazine. They just had a very successful gig at the Second City Benefit in Chicago and sold an autographed copy of the Spin article for hundreds of dollars!
Jesus, I can’t believe more than 22,000 people were killed in that tsunami yesterday. Since it's happening in south Asia, I wonder if it won't register with some Americans until it’s made into a TV-movie starring Ming-Na as the angry Asian World Health Organization official whose warnings no one would listen to and Tea Leoni as the spoiled American tourist in Thailand who gets a new lease on life after surviving the disaster. And the death toll keeps climbing. Truly frightening. I can't believe I first heard about it on a blog I was reading! Oy, time to put the blogs away and start plowing through the manuscripts on my desk...
Self expression is not narcissism. It seems like a fine and generous way of sharing yourself with everyone! Not to mention - fun - just plain fun!
Hmmm ... I wonder if we will we still need authors of books?
I am really enjoying reading what you have to share, Danny. Thanks for your blog!
