  • Salon: Jews for Jesus
Not the organization, but a link to my essay that appeared on Salon about how my mostly Jewish public school in Chicago forced us to welcome the birth of the Christ child in song.
  • Salon: Uh-oh, Spaghettios
Another Salon piece that delves into my junk food-obsessed childhood.
  • Los Angeles Times
Here are links to three recent articles I wrote for the Times: a profile of our historic neighborhood, a cover story about the crazy-making practice of backup offers, and a primer to getting your house a gig in the movies.

Oops

Flightcancelled Not that my travel plans are of vital interest to the World Wide Blogosphere, but I thought I should provide an update after my last smug entry. I had just made it to my seat on my overcrowded American Airlines plane after much communal hand-wringing in the terminal when they suddenly announced that Logan Airport in Boston had just closed and our flight was canceled. Damn. Even David Carradine couldn’t help. Then I had to wait with the unruly crowd until they could find out what they were going to do with our luggage, then shlep back to the remote lot at LAX where I discovered to my joy that I had a flat tire! I drove on my flat to the Firestone tire shop in Hollywood, all the while spending two hours on hold with our company travel agent who finally got on the line and told me I couldn’t get into New England until Monday night at the earliest, which is too late to bother going at all. Aaaargh! And now here I sit waiting for my tire to be fixed at the Starbucks on Hollywood Boulevard directly in front of Allen Ludden and Betty White’s stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I realize this is hardly the worst tale of woe among the thousands of stranded travelers today, but I’m so worn out I can barely talk. Or blog.

I was thinking about you today during this never-ending blizzard and started to call you to find out if you thought you were going to make it to the East Coast when I realized I could just check your blog for an update! I hope this doesn't mean we'll never have reason to speak again. Sorry about your trip but you can thank your lucky stars you live in L.A today.

Also,I don't know what hospital your father was in (previous blog), but when I was in the hospital, McDonald's would have seemed like a gourmet meal compared to what they served me in there...

Danny, I look at the beautiful wooded Fairmount Park just outside my study window. The deep snow is so beautiful and the cardinals eating at my feeder are all red and puffed up from the cold. I wouldn't trade anything for this wintry beauty! But then I wasn't flying across the country like you!

You are too wonderful! I think I am going to blog; is that a verb? Who has addressed that one? However, I must tell you that none of my Jewish friends waited to decorate their nurseries and as far as I know, I am the only one of my friends who left the hospital twice without giving my daughters a name; these are very serious matters and should not be decided on lightly. Also, just to let you know, athough I am sure I am not the first to say so, You are a very emotionally generous man, and what an incredible gift that is to those around you. A. Judy
